The project and the clinical evidence serve different purposes
The U=U & ME website presents information about HIV, U=U, treatment and stigma, alongside campaign materials and people helping communicate the message. It is a source for project information, not evidence that a particular medicine or every service is suitable for you. [1]
This review does not verify a launch date, a new app, nationwide partner coverage or a measured reduction in HIV attributable to the campaign. Distinguish planned activities, completed activities and evaluated outcomes; a goal is not a demonstrated result.
What U=U establishes
U=U means that a person taking ART who maintains viral suppression meeting care-team criteria does not transmit HIV through sex. It is not a cure, a result from one screening test, or a guarantee for breastfeeding or sharing injection equipment. It does not prevent other STIs. [2]
Confirm sustained suppression with your care team. Do not stop ART because of a slogan or a single test result. HIV screening, a negative self-test and taking PrEP are not evidence that a person has achieved U=U. [2] [3] [4]
Dignity does not depend on viral load
HIV is not transmitted through hugging, sharing meals or toilets, or ordinary daily contact. People do not need to achieve suppression before sharing a home or deserving respect. Support people facing barriers to care rather than blaming them. [5] [6] [7]
For campaign participation, ask consent before publishing a story, photograph or health information. Do not infer a person’s HIV status from their image or involvement. Agree the intended use and audience rather than assuming attendance authorizes public disclosure.
Turn information into appropriate care
After a confirmed HIV diagnosis, link to care promptly without waiting for low CD4. Treatment supports health but is not a guarantee of identical outcomes or immediate access at every clinic. [8] [9]
Seek PEP assessment as soon as possible after a possible HIV exposure and start when indicated within 72 hours. Do not wait for symptoms, all pending laboratory results or an online appointment. If more time has passed, still seek assessment and a testing plan. Do not substitute PrEP yourself. [10]
Check practical arrangements
Confirm current activities, eligibility, costs, required records and safe contact methods with the provider. A campaign link or online booking does not diagnose HIV, guarantee anonymity or certify every service as free. [11] [3]
Ask for support with anxiety or discrimination. You do not have to disclose publicly or educate everyone yourself to deserve care. DDC describes the CRS channel for rights concerns in Thailand; ask how information will be handled. [12] [13]
